I"m Quitting.

puma sleeping
But not furry fandom.

I told my boss that i'll be leaving after Labor Day. I've been at my current institution for 4 years but got an offer from a nearby institution to join them. This new place is closer to home, better facilities, and pays more.

Unfortunately, my boss was totally surprised by my announcement. Not surprising, he was seemed upset.
Hopefully, he won't make my life too uncomfortable until my last day.

Its always a tough one when folks quit (especially if its unexpected) -- a lot of managers immediately question themselves .. despite it often having little to do with them.

Good luck at the new place.. of course I'll see you long before then

I called the new place this AM to just make sure I still have the offer. In this case, a bunch of the reasons for moving are because of my boss. I'm not sure if he'll finally get it. We're not happy there.

It ususually does have quite a bit to do with them. People don't quit jobs, they quit bosses.

Well, hopefully he'll understand that you need to move onward and upward. Since this place is closer to home, pays more, and seems to be better overall... well, here's hoping he won't make your life hell in the time between now and the time you go to the new place.

Well, the one month off that I arranged should help. I can get to Rainfurrest at least.

Well hopefully he wont blame himself or become to vindictive. Congrats on your move up or at least you move to a better place for yourself.

The vindictive possibility worries me. My boss is just under lots of stress right now.

Heh - Finally managed to catch up to your boss to turn in your letter? Well, congrats with that - hope that the transition goes well!

Wish you nothing but the best in this transition. I hope it is the change that you want/need and gives you room for personal and professional growth. As for your boss... maybe he just needs time to digest the idea of this and he will not be unprofessional, if not make sure it is clear to his boss that his unprofessionalism is one of the factors of your leaving.

Congratulations :)

It's not up in Evanston, is it? ;)

Not Evanston, but closer to downtown. :)

More money and shorter commute are both excellent reasons to get the hell out of a job. Especially if there's a possibility the boss could get retaliatory in the last few weeks of employment. Here's wishing you and Halo Kitty all the best in the new job! :)
